Originally constructed for Henry Truehart Adriance, a partner in the first chartered realty firm in Galveston, the property continued as a private residence until 2002. It was then purchased by Jim and Connie Porter for the purpose of converting it into an island retreat. Prior to moving to Galveston, Jim and Connie were long-time residents of the South Pacific and this influence can be seen throughout the house. The house sits on a third of an acre lot surrounded by lush tropical foliage, making it an ideal setting for a romantic getaway or just a break from the workaday world.

While Avenue O offers the amenities of a large hotel, it maintains the special ambiance and personalized service of a home away from home. From the time you enter this unique and warm Galveston Bed and Breakfast, you will experience the true meaning of Island Hospitality.

The Dining and Living rooms are decorated with an eclectic blend of contemporary and antique. Both offer comfort and space to relax and gather for conversation, reading, playing games, or just doing nothing. The patio offers ample outdoor seating for protected enjoyment of the lovely landscaped grounds.

Specialties of the house include free parking while aboard a cruise ship with a one night's stay, a full breakfast served in the dining room, and an outdoor grill available for those who must have their barbeque fix.

Avenue O Bed & Breakfast offers the perfect romantic setting for the celebration of your choice. Avenue O can accommodate up to 50 people indoors for a stand up reception, and 35 guests for a sit down function. Outside, in the beautifully landscaped yard, up to 75 people can be accommodated for a stand up affair; up to 50 guests seated. You can rent the venue only, or let them coordinate everything for you. Allow Avenue O to make the event of your dreams come true. Also available for rehearsal dinners and showers.

I wanted something simple, yet memorable and sacred. It is a perfect venue for a small family wedding with close friends. The caterers and the cake were included in one of the many packages she offered. I am still hearing about how good the food was!! Our Officiant and flowers were also included in the package.It all worked out like it was meant to be. I recommend getting married there or staying there for a relaxing weekend. My favorite rooms are the Safari Room and the Rainforest Room. Check it out! David and Maria Canada 4/16/2008 8:06:00 AM We visited the Ave O for our wedding weekend in May of 2007. Connie was wonderful!...she made it all special for us!. We stayed in the south seas room and it was a wonderful time. We had fresh cookies every time we came back to the room, and the Hot tub in the bathroom was wonderful.
